Tom O. placed a Custom Order for four complete sets of Rounded Bookends. They were made from Knot-Free Pine, and stained within the Teak color range. Tom created these unique bookends using vintage microphones, one pair of which he immediately placed on Ebay.
The Second order Tom Placed was for some custom bases for old radio tubes. His projects are shown here. "After working in broadcasting for 48 years as a Broadcast Engineer I recently retired in 2010. I spent the last 20 years working for the Federal Government in Washington, DC. Before that I spent many years in Cleveland Ohio and the NBC Network in New York City. I collect broadcasting memorabilia; old microphones, telegraph keys, gramophones, old vacuum tubes and even a few very old radios. I really don’t create anything. I kind of just 'put things together' like these microphone bookends. I had Al Thomas work with me, from conception to completion, to make these exceptional teak stained bookends. I wanted them to be in proportion to the microphones and Al took all the time to collect info from me, offering suggestions along the way, which just added uniqueness to them. I’m so impressed with Al’s craftsmanship that I’m having him start another project for me." Sadly, Tom passed away on September 2, 2012. He will be greatly missed. |

Andrea W. purchased 5.5" x 10" Plaques with holes for "Bride", "Groom" and Reserved" signs for her wedding in Mexico.
"I painted a few coats of ivory satin latex paint, then a few coats of gold acrylic on the edges. To make the letters look uniform on the reserved signs, I made a pattern that I traced in pencil over the ivory color. To make the pattern, I bought a package of cursive stencil letters at Michael's craft store, cut the letters out, then taped them in line over sturdy paper, then cut out the word for tracing. I used a very thin paint brush to fill in the letters with black acrylic paint (Michael's has an extensive brush section). I think I sprayed a Martha Stewart satin finish over the entire plaque, just to give it a uniform finish. The ivory ribbon was purchased at Michael's as well. Lastly I glued a piece of cream colored felt on the back of the plaques to make them look professional." |
